Books that just dropped it so hot, your fingertips will sizzle

June 2018

Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pessl: This is an Indie Next title that will literally dump your brain in a blender and set it on high. Think Gossip Girl characters (but Dan is genderbent) in a waspy, wealthy, coastal New England version of Groundhog Day. Technically YA, but with huge crossover appeal for adult readers.

When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger: I la-la-la-LOVED The Devil Wears Prada and this companion novel is a refreshing new take on high-powered women finding strength in each other and in their ability to conquer unique challenges. Weisberger is always good for a laugh and I think it’s charming that she’s taking on the suburbs now that she’s made NYC her bitch.

Florida by Lauren Groff: This new collection of short stories is like a slowly approaching tsunami. Much of its force lies under the surface, but you know that when it reaches shore, a terrible power will be unleashed. Groff perfectly captures a sense of always present dread. An insidiously vague feeling that something isn’t right, like the first prickle of sweat when the Florida heat hits you after leaving an air-conditioned room, sits tightly coiled amidst its pages.  This collection is deeply human and deeply female. I loved it and will spend a long time absorbing its many, fluid layers.
